This course appeals to those who are interested in further study at University level or a career in the Sports Industry. With units on practical Outdoor Activities, Coaching, Sports
Development and Leadership, students are provided with a recognised qualification for application to courses at universities recognised for excellence in sports including John Moore’s Liverpool, Loughborough and University of Ulster, Jordanstown. Alternatively, students will gain practical experience and can work towards specialist awards & certificates required for careers in the industry.

What else do I need to know?
Assessment
100% coursework. The course is assessed entirely through practical and written assignments which means there are no exams to be taken. Students benefit from working in the new sports science laboratory, equipped with the latest fitness testing devices to maximise performance.

What is this course about?
This course will provide ideal preparation for those who want to develop their skills in the professional area of Sports Performance and Athlete Development. It will be of particular interest to those coaching or performing at a high level in sport. Students will study areas such as Analysis of
Sports Performance, Technical and Tactical Aspect of Sport, The Athletes Lifestyles and Sports Coaching. It is equivalent to 3 ‘A’ Levels and is a pathway to further study at HND, University Level or Employment in the Sports Industry.

Students can progress to further study at HND/University Level or a career in the Sport Industry. Previous students have completed study in Sports Coaching, Sports Development and Performance Analysis at University of Ulster Jordanstown, John Moore’s Liverpool, and Loughborough University. With modules such as Sport Coaching, Fitness Testing, Technical and Tactical Analysis and Performance Analysis, students will also be in demand from sports clubs and teams in the industry.

Assessment
The course is 100% coursework and is assessed through written assignments and practical sessions. Students will be tutored by highly qualified lecturing staff who have relevant industry experience.

Special Features
You will also have the opportunity to participate in college sports teams and in addition, undertake National Governing Body Coaching Awards qualifications, such as Soccer, Basketball, Rugby, Gaelic Football, Life-Saving, First Aid and experience work placement in a sports environment.

This qualification enables progression to a variety of degree programmes including Sports Sciences, Sports Management/
Development, Sport Injuries, Sports Equipment Design, Sports and Leisure Fitness Monitoring, Physiotherapy, Professional Coaching, Development and Personal Training, Lecturing and PE. Recent students progressed to the highly sought-after BSc (Hons) Sport Exercise & Leisure courses at University of Ulster, Jordanstown (UUJ) and Loughborough, while others gained places in Liverpool, Bolton, Manchester and Glasgow, and on the Physiotherapy degree at UUJ. Others have also progressed to Bachelor of Business (BBus) in Sports Development and Coaching at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
